Are you interested in improvement?
If someone knew something that made you better, would you want to hear it?
Would you be able to hear it?
What if the information hurt your feelings? Are you still up for that?
Think of the progression of the answers to those questions. For most of us, it would go like this:
Are you interested in improvement? “Absolutely!”
If someone knew something that made you better, would you want to hear it? “Yes!”
Would you be able to hear it? “…Probably”
What if the information hurt your feelings? Are you still up for that? “Ummm…..”
Here at The Sales Vault, we are customers of Loyalty Loop. In a nutshell, Loyalty Loop is a customer feedback platform. Through their services, you receive everything from 5 star Google reviews to some pretty direct feedback. As someone who does not always take negative comments well, it’s been a learning experience but one I am increasingly grateful for and for one important reason:
The Sales Vault is better for it.
Note: While I do recommend and endorse Loyalty Loop, this is not meant to be an ad for them.
However you choose to obtain input from clients, I just hope you do it. And second, I hope you pause for a quick second to appreciate the positive but then quickly move on to the moderate (what LL calls, “Passive”) and downright negative (“Detractor”). Put on your big boy/girl pants and contact those people to ask for details.
Consider the impact of fixing these fictional comments:
- “Your response time is unacceptable”
- “I left a message on your voicemail. Never heard back.”
- “Your website leaves me wondering what you do.”
You don’t know what you don’t know. So, ask. Then respond. Next, listen. And finally, correct.
If you want someone to make you feel good about yourself, call your mom.
If you want to improve, assume the position, then ask your customers.
