John Braceland, managing director of purchasing cooperative Graphic Arts Alliance (GAA), describes how his members worked with Henry Freedman, founder of Image Test Labs (ITL), to help its members test, measure, grade, and then benchmark the print image quality of their digital presses within a peer-to-peer group setting. ITL's network-mediated peer group image measurement employs enhanced email to remotely test printing presses and internet communication technologies to establish a meeting of the press operators and owners during which they can make a detailed print image assessment. Then measurement data can be shared anonymously by electronic communications among a peer group of participants to enable benchmarking and better color measurement and control.
