Editor's Note: The four individuals profiled in this series were named the 2026 Rising Stars due to their passion, their dedication, and the impact they’ve had on the printing industry. In this article, we present Tyler Hollingsworth, RCA specialist, Business Communication Solutions (BCS) Quality at RR Donnelley, located in Logan, Utah.
Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in biology at age 19 isn’t the usual path that leads someone to the printing industry. But in Tyler Hollingworth’s case, it did.
“I actually come from a family of doctors … And I started studying to become a dentist,” he explains.
He quickly realized though that he didn’t have a passion for any particular medical field, so he ended up in customer service where he found his calling.
“When I look at my strengths, I’m more like a facilitator,” he says. “I’m a connector of sorts. A positive connector, that’s how I sum myself up.”
Hollingsworth was interested in writing a book, something he couldn’t commit to while working in customer service, so he ultimately pursued a position in production, specifically at the Logan, Utah, facility of RR Donnelley (RRD).
“I’m kind of a geek about paper, so I saw this opportunity at RR Donnelly to work with paper in production,” he says. “While I was working at RRD, I just kind of fell in love with the company. I love this industry, and I wasn’t expecting to love production and printing, but it has become my passion.”
Hollingsworth explains he wanted to increase his skills so he asked for opportunities, which he says were given to him “one after another.”
“Actually, I worked on the printers for two full years, and just really loved handling the paper and working with the [devices].”
That drive to learn the business and keep challenging himself led him to his current role as a roots cause analysis (RCA) specialist, which Hollingsworth describes as a sort of company “facilitator.”
“I’m in the position I am now kind of like a facilitator within the quality control department,” he explains. “I connect all the different problems with the different departments and connect solutions to them.”
Taking Passion to the Next Level
Now in the position of RCA specialist at RRD, Hollingsworth has shifted his focus to improving the quality of the product, the performance, and efficiency, and that all starts with humans. For the past five years, he has been developing training materials at the Logan Business Communication Solutions (BCS) facility with the help of Quality Manager Ryan Cytryn.
“When I started working here, I found that there are a lot of opportunities for growth and improvement within the training program,” he says. “I loved my trainers here at RRD … but I wanted to improve the different aspects of our training program and make it centralized and visible for everyone.”
He took inspiration from the book he was working on in his personal life — a “how-to on life” — and applied the same principle to the training work he is doing at RRD.
“I kind of wanted to make a ‘how-to’ of the different aspects of RRD and how we can improve the different performance capabilities or techniques that we use to print,” he says.
Now, the work that Hollingsworth has done is expanding to other RRD sites.
“Through my time with Ryan, we’ve improved several processes,” he says. “The program [started] in Logan [now we’re] working with the different production sites and giving them ideas, I’m giving them resources that can be used to improve.”
Hollingsworth points out that companies that spend time on training show employees they’re valued, which is also how Hollingsworth feels having been nominated as a rising star.
“I see my work a lot like a giant family, and so it makes me feel valued,” he says. “It makes me feel like I’m part of the team. It makes me feel seen. And that’s what I want for everyone. I want everyone, no matter what their role is, to feel valued.”
Helping to develop a training program has been a highlight, but he says one of the things he loves most about the industry is the possibilities printing creates.
“It provides a customizable experience and that’s what I love about printing,” Hollingsworth says. “You can create a near infinite amount of experiences through printing and the different technologies out there.”
