If prospecting was like picking someone up at a bar, instead of saying, "Do you come here often?" a sales rep would use the equally ineffective, "Our differentiator is our customer service."
Either way, you're going home alone if that's your best pickup line.
Here’s a better line for salespeople to try: “My goal is to be doing business with you 10 years from now.”
Imagine saying that to a client. Consider the impact of those words. What kind of a relationship would you have to create in order for it to last 10 years? What kind of a conversation with that statement generate? If you can get the prospect to picture it as well, you have the makings of a beautiful friendship.
