‘Green Printer’ Criteria Determined INDIANAPOLIS—The Sustainable Green Printing (SGP) Partnership revealed at the recent National Environmental Health and Safety (NEHS) conference the criteria on how to become a sustainable, green printer. Printers that meet these requirements and are verified will be listed on the SGP Partnership Registry Website. There are two categories of SGP registration. The first is Candidate Pending Verification (CPV), which will give a facility a 12-month timeframe in which to meet all criteria for becoming an SGP Printer. Facilities that already meet the crieria can bypass the CPV category and apply for recognition under the SGP Printer category. Among other requirements,

Arandell Corp. Honored by DNR MADISON, WI—Arandell Corp., of Menomonee Falls, WI, was welcomed September 27 into the state’s Green Tier program, which provides regulatory and publicity incentives to organizations that voluntarily achieve superior environmental performance. Representatives from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and other state officials honored Arandell Corp. at a ceremony here. Prior to joining Green Tier, the high-end catalog printer recycled more than 43 million pounds of paper, aluminum, plastic film and inks. By switching to a new lighting system, Arandell saves 1.8 million kilowatt-hours annually. Arandell also reduced its VOC emissions by 20 tons after installing new press wash systems.

Curtis Picks Up Landmark Diecutter SANDY HOOK, CT—Curtis Packaging has installed the first Heidelberg Dymatrix 142 CSB diecutter in the Western Hemisphere. It replaces a 30-year-old machine. The massive, 60-ton diecutter was shipped from Heidelberg Postpress production in Manchengladbach, Germany. From there, the machine was dismantled, then shipped via freighter to the United States. Upon its arrival in New York Harbor, the Dymatrix 142 was sent to Curtis Packaging, becoming the first piece of Heidelberg equipment the company has ever owned. Now in full production mode at Curtis, the Dymatrix 142 CSB (cutting, stripping and blanking model) with automatic pallet feeder has met or exceeded all expectations,
