At the end of September, Freedom, a direct mail operation, had two major milestones to celebrate: The company hit its 40th anniversary, and it had a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of a new mail center facility on the company’s Aurora, IL campus.
“Over the past four decades, Freedom has experienced tremendous change,” noted Freedom President and Chief Operating Officer Eric Blohm. “We’ve navigated economic ups and downs, embraced new technologies, adapted to customers’ changing needs, and overcome many challenges through the years. Yet, through every challenge and every opportunity, one thing remains constant: our people. That is at the heart of what has made Freedom so successful. People make Freedom what it is today.”
The company, he explained, was originally founded on business forms, before shifting its focus to direct mail — and never looking back. In a statement, the company noted that, “Through the years, Freedom built an integrated direct mail supply chain through investments in printing, finishing, lettershop, postal optimization, and mailing technologies.”
And the new facility will support the next phase of growth, with 87,000 sqft that expands the company’s footprint on that campus to 313,222 sqft, creating one of the largest direct mail plants in the market. Last year, it pushed early 1.5 billion pieces into the mail stream, and helped clients save more than $52 million in postage through postal optimization strategies. And the newly christened facility, representing one of the largest recent investments in direct mail production and mail operations infrastructure in the Midwest, will only expand those numbers in the coming years.
“We built this facility, not just for where direct mail is today, but for what our clients need from direct mail 5-10 years from now,” Blohm said. “As postal requirements, data strategies, and personalization continue to evolve, this investment gives us the foundation to keep helping clients improve their direct mail performance and control their costs.”
