In the previous posts in this series, I focused on creating clarity around what print is, sharing the inside story of a print business and what it’s like to work there, bringing capabilities to life within a space, and taking print into the real world to invite participation.
That work creates interest.
Now comes the moment that matters most. Is there a clear next step to work with you, or work for you?
1. Create a Clear Path
Interest does not automatically turn into action. When the path to working with you or working for you is unclear, the experience breaks down. Frustration sets in. The process gets abandoned. That does not just cost an opportunity, it reflects on how your business operates.
If someone walks into your facility, meets you at an event, scans a QR code, or lands on your website, what happens next? Is there a clear path to working with you or working for you?
Checklist:
- Identify where customers and candidates first encounter your business.
- Check if the next step is obvious to them in each place.
- Eliminate dead ends, unclear directions, and missing links.
2. Be Responsive
Responsiveness is not only about speed. It is about clarity and acknowledgment. Let people know their message has been received. Set expectations. Follow through. When someone reaches out about working with you or working for you, how that moment is handled sets the tone for your relationship and your reputation.
Checklist:
- Review how inquiries are handled across email, phone, and online channels.
- Check if responses are clear, direct, and move the conversation forward.
- Identify where communication slows down, stalls, or stops.
3. Define the Next Step
If someone is interested in working with you or working for you, what should they do? Do not assume familiarity with your process. Lay it out. Step one. Step two. Step three. Make it visible. Make it simple. Make it achievable.
Checklist:
- Go through your own process as a customer and as a candidate.
- Have someone unfamiliar with your business do the same.
- Ask where they hesitated, what they missed, and where they stopped.
Make it easy to say yes to YOU!
