JEFFERSON CITY, MO—Angered that the state Revenue Department violated their privacy by allowing advertisements to be inserted in vehicle registration renewal notices, two Missouri residents have filed lawsuits in federal court. The Revenue Department had contracted a printer for the production of the notices. In return for the free printing of the notices, the printer—Imagitas—was given the right to sell and insert commercial advertisements in the notices. The practice saved the state $530,000, roughly half of what Missouri forked over for printing and postage.
