This week's Gold Ink entry titled "Meanwhile in San Francisco," was published and submitted by San Francisco-based Chronicle Books, and entered into the Book Jackets category. Illustrator Wendy MacNaughton captures the everyday life in the city in a very fun and engaging way, not missing a beat.

The app launches the smartphone’s camera and GPS to overlay a set of 3D icons showing the available Valpak coupons in the vicinity as the user scans the surroundings, with a radius varying from 5 feet to 20 miles.

I RECENTLY had the opportunity to attend ad:tech at Moscone West in San Francisco. This conference and trade show takes place annually in nine different venues around the globe (www.ad-tech.com). It is an interactive advertising and technology conference and exhibition that blends keynote speakers, topic-driven panels and workshops to provide attendees with the tools and techniques they need to compete in a changing world.

WASHINGTON, DC—A Maryland senator proposed a bill that would allow newspapers to operate as nonprofit organizations, an effort to throw a lifeline to the struggling industry. The bill proposed by Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) would essentially preserve the integrity of news gathering and reporting, although nonprofit papers would no longer be able to make political endorsements. Ad and subscription revenue would be tax exempt, while public contributions could be tax deductible.
