Flint Raises Prices on Spot-Color Inks, Varnishes and Pressroom Chemistry

Flint Group North America has announced an 8-percent price increase on spot-color inks and overprint varnishes used in sheetfed and heatset applications. In addition, it is instituting price increases of up to $1.25 on press washes used in sheeted and offset web applications. The increases take effect April 1.

PLYMOUTH, MI—Flint Group North America has announced a 10 percent price increase on heatset web offset printing inks used in commercial and publication markets. New prices will take effect on all heatset process inks, blends and OPVs ordered in the United States and Canada on or after June 1, subject to existing contracts.

Flint Group North America has announced a 10 percent price increase on on all heatset web offset process inks, blends and OPVs ordered in the United States and Canada on or after June 1, 2011, subject to existing contracts. “Since January, costs have continued to increase substantially for all the major raw materials used in heatset inks,” notes Michael Podd, business director, Heatset Inks, Flint Group.

Inky Crash May Shut Down Ramp

Several hundreds of gallons of ink splattered [be sure to check out the colorful photo and video] onto the highway this morning, said Joe Ferson, a spokesman for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. Approximately 16,000 pounds of ink cartridges from Flint Group Inks, an Indianapolis-based company selling printing and packaging products, was bound for a newspaper company in Portland, ME. Red, blue and yellow ink cartridges were inside the truck, but Ferson said there is no evidence the yellow ink was released.

The ink reached two storm drains, but it is not considered a hazardous material.
