MFSA Aligns Lobby Efforts with Ben Cooper
ALEXANDRIA, VA—0/15/09—The Mailing & Fulfillment Service Association (MFSA), a trade association representing nearly 600 service providers and suppliers to the mailing and fulfillment industries, has recently developed a “Plan For Success.” As part of the plan, the association has entered into an agreement with Ben Cooper to serve as its first, paid lobbyist to represent the membership’s positions on Capitol Hill.
With a number of significant issues impacting the future of the USPS expected to be determined by Congress, such as “HR 22” and “5-day delivery,” MFSA’s Board determined that it is critically important to have a voice in issues affecting the association’s membership and to be represented by someone with Cooper’s experience and expertise.
Among the objectives for the new lobby effort is to organize an effective legislative steering committee within the membership and charge them with the responsibility to help develop legislative positions. Additionally, MFSA has the opportunity to develop an effective grassroots program to properly communicate the positions of the association to the proper elected officials. These efforts are designed to assure that MFSA moves into the leadership role for postal organizations and are also recognized by key elected officials.
Ben Cooper has been actively involved in major postal issues throughout the past ten years. He founded and chaired the Coalition for a 21st Century Postal Service which helped organize the mailing industry to pass Postal Reform in 2006. Cooper also serves as Executive Director of Mail Moves America, the organization formed by DMA to fight Do Not Mail legislation at the state level. Cooper is currently a partner at Washington DC lobbying firm Williams and Jensen. Prior to coming to Williams and Jensen, he was Executive Director of the Printing Industries of America for nearly 28 years where he managed their federal legislative, regulatory and political programs.
In 2007, MFSA awarded Ben the Miles Kimball Award for his work on Postal Reform.
