Dear America,
Two hundred and fifty years ago, a bold idea was set in motion: that ordinary people could shape an extraordinary future. That freedom, opportunity, innovation, and self-determination could become the foundation of a nation unlike any the world had seen before.
Today, as we celebrate this milestone, I find myself reflecting not only on where we’ve been, but on what has always made America exceptional. America is a nation of builders. Builders of businesses. Builders of communities. Builders of industries. Builders of dreams.
Throughout our history, progress has come from people willing to create something that did not exist before; an invention, a company, a movement, a solution to a challenge, or a better future for the next generation.
The printing industry has lived that story for centuries.
Long before digital communication connected the world, print carried ideas across cities, states, and continents. It informed citizens, educated communities, fueled commerce, supported democracy, and helped generations of Americans share their stories. Print has always been more than ink on paper, it is how information becomes understanding, how ideas become action, and how voices become part of the national conversation.
That spirit remains alive today.
Every day, across America, thousands of printing companies create jobs, strengthen local economies, support nonprofits, help manufacturers succeed, and provide essential communications that keep our society moving forward. Many are family-owned businesses that have served their communities for generations. Others are startups pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation.
Together, they represent something deeply American: the belief that hard work, ingenuity, and service to others matter. As we celebrate our nation’s first 250 years, we also look ahead to the next 250.
The future will bring new technologies, new opportunities, and new challenges. Artificial intelligence, automation, advanced manufacturing, sustainability initiatives, and workforce transformation are already reshaping the world around us.
Yet, the qualities that will determine our success remain unchanged. Curiosity. Creativity. Resilience. Entrepreneurship. A willingness to work together toward something larger than ourselves.
Those qualities have carried America through moments of triumph and moments of adversity. They will continue to guide us forward.
At PRINTING United Alliance, we believe in the power of connection, between businesses, educators, students, innovators, policymakers, and communities. We believe that when people come together with a shared purpose, remarkable things happen.
America’s story has never been finished. Each generation adds a new chapter.
As we celebrate this historic birthday, may we honor those who came before us by investing in those who will follow. May we continue creating opportunities for young people, strengthening our communities, supporting innovation, and building industries that contribute to a vibrant and prosperous future.
Most importantly, may we never lose sight of the fact that America’s greatest strength has always been its people; their ideas, their determination, and their belief that tomorrow can be better than today.
And for those of us in print, we remain proud to help tell America’s story, one page, one package, one sign, one publication, and one innovation at a time.
Happy 250th Birthday, America — here’s to the next chapter!
Sincerely,
Ford Bowers
