A Printing Industry Without Postal Reform?
Make no mistake…if the “doomsday scenaro” arrives, there will be massive disruption in our industry; disruption that includes significant job losses, business closings, and financial hardship. It will affect you, your families, your colleagues, and your co-suppliers; the ripple effect of all these affected audiences will extend to the far reaches of the industry and beyond.
The world WILL move on—with us or without us—so we NEED to do a better job advocating our position. Our circumstance is dire, the effects are existential, yet we’re not even paying attention. I, for one, only recently learned about The Coalition for a 21st Century Postal Service, a lobbying group that is representing a wide coalition of that includes PIA, DMA, National Retail Federation, and approximately 50 other associations with our common interest. This organization provides a powerful case for taking action now and delivers it with a credibility and potency.
This isn’t Chicken Little, and the sky isn’t falling. But our $1.1 trillion industry, eight percent of our GDP and the employment of over eight million people (yes, people, not statistics) are at stake. The least I can do is blog about it. The least you can do is read about it.
But blogging and reading aren’t enough. We need to speak, act, and effect change. Now.
