I listened to a podcast while at the gym recently. It was so interesting, I kept losing count of my reps. What’s more, I kept stopping to take note of something being said or an idea sparked from what I was hearing.
I finally gave up and went home, blasting inside through the garage door only to find my business-partner-wife on the phone and unable to be hit by my enthusiasm tsunami.
UGGGHHH!!!!!
I reread the operator’s manual for the Ninja Ice Cream maker. Learned 3 more things it makes other than incredible ice cream.
There are dozens of emails in my “Saved to Read Later” folder, all waiting for their turn.
My daughter keeps sending me AI-related pieces she knows will help me.
It all just keeps piling up…
I am not a New Year’s Resolution guy. 365 days is too far to reasonably believe the “I’m gunna” promise will last. So, I am going with just January.
This blog is being written on the second to last day of December. For January of 2026, I’m gonna take an hour a week and dedicate it to learning. Books, articles, instruction manuals, podcasts, emails, text messages…whatever. Hopefully, it will end up being more than an hour (that is, if I can quiet my ADD and ignore the stress-induced dyslexia).
Steven Covey called it, “Sharpening the saw.”
I’ve chosen 1-2pm ET on Fridays. All electronics will be silenced. The experiment ends January 30. I’ll check in next month to let you know what it was like.
Let the learning begin!
