The problem with the new-age media is that it bombards us with information and images almost as an event happens. Picture how terrifying it would have been to watch Pearl Harbor come under attack in real time. The events of 9/11 brought us perhaps closer to unfolding tragedy than we've ever been. Say goodbye to 2001. Good riddance is more appropriate. One would be hard pressed to find many good things to say about the now-concluding year, other than that it's almost over.
