Commercial printer Alcom, of Harleysville, PA, has hired a new territory manager/solutions provider: John Newswanger, a 21-year veteran of Acorn Press.
Warren Dow, president of Trend Offset Printing in Los Alamitos, CA, has been promoted to president and CEO. Dow joined Trend in July 2005, and became president and COO in 2006. Before joining Trend, he served as COO of Southwest Offset Printing. He’s a graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara and is on the board of directors of the Web Offset Association (WOA).
The creative agency and technology solutions unit of The CGI Group, CGI Squared Ltd., London, announced the launch of i-version, a Web-based solution that instantly converts printed documents to Web-enabled interactive documents. The solution is designed for CGI clients that want to publish their documents simultaneously in printed format and on the Web.
Reynold Schweickhardt, the current chief information officer (CIO) for the Government Printing Office (GPO), has been tapped to serve as chief technology officer (CTO) of the agency. Schweickhardt joined the GPO in 2003 after serving as director of technology for the U.S. House of Representatives. Michael Wash, the current CTO who has been with the GPO since 2004 when he helped develop the agency’s technology management program (called the Future Digital System or FDsys), will assume the responsibilities of CIO.
Robin Dodd has joined Wright Business Forms (dba Wright Business Graphics), Portland, OR, as its new commercial print division manager. Formerly an account manager at Direct Marketing Solutions, Dodd will be responsible for managing all commercial operations and personnel at WBG’s Portland facility.
Cathleen Black, president of Hearst Magazines, New York City, has been named the recipient of the 2007 Prism Award presented annually by New York University (NYU) in recognition of distinguished leadership in the graphic arts and communications industry. The award will be presented during the 22nd Prism Award Luncheon November 14 at The Pierre in New York City. Proceeds of the luncheon help fund student scholarships, as well as student and program support for NYU’s Graphic Communications graduate program.
