PRIMIR 2012 Winter Meeting Will Highlight Print E-Commerce Study Findings
RESTON, VA—Oct. 18, 2012—PRIMIR, the Print Industries Market Information and Research Organization, will reveal findings from a soon-to-be-released research study on the impact of e-commerce in the printing industry at its Winter Meeting, Dec. 3-5, 2012, at the Westin Hotel Canal Place, New Orleans.
PRIMIR meeting attendees will learn findings from the research study, “eCommerce and Print Business Models,” that InfoTrends is wrapping up for PRIMIR. In New Orleans InfoTrends will present key findings from this research in which they investigated how printers implemented e-commerce in their print operations. The study outlines business models/practices, sales and marketing strategies, products offered, tools utilized, software and other infrastructure investment requirements including training, that are necessary for a successful implementation.
According to Riley McNulty, associate director at InfoTrends and project leader for the PRIMIR study, “E-commerce is having a profound impact on the competitive landscape within the printing industry. Its impact has evolved more slowly than other industries because printing is manufacturing, often with a high level of customization or personalization. This complexity impacts where e-commerce can play a role. Nevertheless, e-commerce has made substantial inroads in specific printing segments, particularly where repeatability and lower levels of customization are key characteristics of the products being manufactured.
“Many forces are impacting the printing industry’s structure, and this evolutionary process requires companies to make transformational changes to business strategy that capitalize on enabling e-commerce technologies. Failure to do so will have profound implications on profitability and long-term viability of individual printing businesses,” McNulty added.
PRIMIR 2012 Winter Meeting attendees will also participate in various task forces focused on 2012 and 2013 research to be completed. They will also brainstorm in Roundtable Sessions as a precursor to launching three new studies on member-suggested topics. These new topics are: The Future of Retail Advertising Inserts, Changing Business Model for Printing Equipment & Supplies Manufacturers, and Print Applications: Revenues, Processes, Run Lengths and Consumables Ratios.
