PackPrint Put on the Backburner for Now
RESTON, VA—The Graphic Arts Show Company (GASC) firmly believes PackPrint has a bright future. But it seems the present isn’t quite ready for the package printing show, as the GASC announced it would not be held concurrently with Graph Expo 2007 from September 9-12 in Chicago, as planned.
In the end, it was a matter of insufficient vendor support. According to Ralph Nappi, president of GASC, the goal was to sell 50,000 square feet for the inaugural PackPrint. GASC pulled the plug with 40 vendors having accounted for 26,000 square feet.
“We actually could have held it, but we expected better participation at this point in the game than what we had,” Nappi said. “We didn’t feel like there was enough on the floor, at this point, to justify doing a PackPrint this year.
“We will have some sort of PackPrint in the future. The question is when and where.”
As for Graph Expo itself, this fall’s show is still shaping up to be one of the largest in years. Nappi reports that more than 400,000 square feet of vendor space has been sold, putting the show at 90 percent capacity.
