Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life

You guys. I quit drinking Diet Pepsi. Seriously. Do you know me? Then you know that I LOVE Diet Pepsi. But I am trying to live a more healthful life, so now it’s gone. And it wasn’t easy. Well, for starters, I started drinking coffee, so there’s that. But in all seriousness, I had to do some major changing in my brain in order to be successful with this life alteration.

I don’t think I had any appreciation for how powerful thoughts are. I have read books on it, and get motivational e-mail in my inbox about the power of positive thinking, and all that jazz. But when it came to making a real positive change in my life that would benefit my health, and potentially even how long I remain on this planet, it was HARD. Because to be honest with you, I didn’t just quit soda. I quit fast food, unhealthy food and buying unhealthy food for my kids. It takes time, money and commitment to make these kinds of changes. But we (my husband and I) are just that committed.

So I started asking myself: “What could my reader take away from this?”

And here is the answer. If you want something to be different for you with regard to your sales life, you have to commit to a change. You have to decide what you want the end result to be, and then ALL of your actions need to support that outcome.

Here is an example. Let’s say you want a new account. And we can all agree that the New Account Fairy is not real. Sorry kids. She is not going to leave five-figure commission checks under your pillow. Those days are over. Time to grow up. So.

You are going to do research. Every day. You are going to add prospects to your pipeline. Every week. You are going to hone and refine your communications messages. All the time. Voicemail scripts. Letters. Powerful e-mails. You will have a killer opening when the prospect says, “Hello?” You will take action EVERY DAY that will get you one step closer to landing a new account. And then you will do it all over again. And again. And again.

Now working as a consultant, Kelly sold digital printing for 15 years so she understands the challenges, frustrations and pitfalls of building a successful sales practice. Her mission is to help printers of all sizes sell more stuff. Kelly's areas of focus include client recovery, retention and acquisition, and marketing communications projects.
Kelly graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Political Science and, among other notable accomplishments, co-founded the Windy City Rollers, a professional women's roller derby league.

    Having the people to talk to, who will reinforce you and remind you why you are doing what you are doing is the foundation of every fellowship that exists for the various "addicts" of the world (aka 12-step programs). Why NOT incorporate a fellowship of your own to help hold you accountable and keep you on the right track?

    I’m willing to bet that people who are successful in their careers not only work harder but have an encouraging support system to back them up.

    enjoyed this … been trying to reinvent myself at work and home , very timely message. I have a robust customer list but i am not adding to it enough. Been sort of lazy living off past success. I have challenged myself to sell again and its hard but I’m making headway. Same with my personal life as single father for many years I sent my son off to college this past fall and now I am empty nested, been hard for me try reinvent myself eat better , find activities that don’t include a bar stool or remote control lol … timely message for me enjoyed it kelly ty :)
