It's not every day that I get to talk about journalism even though I am a journalist. My day is consumed by questions for my Associated Press Stylebook, the meaning of particular words, and believe it or not, debates with colleagues about whether or not to use the Oxford Comma. (Note: I will use it throughout this post because I am pro-serial comma.)
But, I still don't get the opportunity to speak with other journalists about the art and craft of journalism that often. At events and during networking opportunities, I'm focused on trends and technology impacting the printing industry. Don't get me wrong, I love chatting with all of you about our vibrant printing industry, but it's exciting to nerd out over the technology and platforms others in my field are using to make their lives easier on a daily basis.
That's why I was thrilled when Dscoop storyteller Darin Painter, also the former editor-in-chief of Print Solutions, invited me to be part of a roundtable discussion with Selah Zighelboim, North America editor of Labels & Labeling, during Dscoop Edge in May. We spent the time talking about our roles; how to maintain trust and relevance in a swiftly changing landscape; the technology we're using to work smarter, not harder (of course we discussed AI); and how journalism, and the way we present stories to our audience, is evolving.
If you're interested in hearing a few journalists chat about what we do on a daily basis and get a little behind-the-scenes look into how I approach content for Printing Impressions, check out the video here.
