IWCO Direct to Expand, Restructure Facilities
October 22, 2007

CHANHASSEN, MN—IWCO Direct will expand its Elm City, NC, plant and consolidate three Long Island, NY, facilities into one, resulting in a net addition of 350 positions to the organization. Elm City is the former Cox Target Media Valpak production facility acquired by IWCO Direct in October of 2006. The deal included a phased transition plan to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year but, based on performance results and operational costs, the facility will be expanded beyond the initial plan to include a “super commingle” site to drive postal optimization strategies. As a result, IWCO Direct’s commingling capacity will increase 35 percent. This

Please adhere; neither I nor the powers that be at North American Publishing can be held responsible for those either materially injured or vicariously insulted. Reader discretion is advised. I’m missing something extremely fundamental. Perhaps someone can help me put my finger on it. You know, one of those revelatory moments when you say, “Ah, now I see what you’re talking about.” I’m in need of revelation. It’s this whole “Do Not Mail” (DNM) nonsense. I really, really don’t get it. Why would people take up a cause to

Do Not Mail — A New Problem for Mailers
May 1, 2007

AT FIRST, the notion that states might consider adopting “Do Not Mail” legislation, which would mimic the infamous “Do Not Call” registry established in 2003, seemed more than a bit ridiculous. After all, getting advertising mail is hardly the equivalent of being interrupted by a phone call at dinner time and enduring a solicitor who wants to offer you a lower credit card interest rate via a balance transfer. The beauty of direct mail solicitations is that they allow you to sift through advertisements on your terms—not during dinner, or your favorite television show, or when coming out of the shower, dripping water everywhere.

NAME, STREET address, city, state and ZIP code. OK, so you know where the end user lives; heck, the direct mail piece may actually end up in his/her hands. But while the piece may have made its destination, did the print buyer truly deliver with its message? And did you, the printer, help ensure that this message went to a recipient that gives a hoot about your client’s product or service? Frankly, if your message whiffs on the intended audience count, it doesn’t matter if the mailed piece even knows how to ring the recipient’s doorbell. “No matter how good the direct mail piece
