After 10 years of service, a Sunday 2000 web offset press consigned to Rochester Institute of Technology and its Printing Applications Lab is being dismantled. The lab reportedly will continue to operate digital presses from Kodak and HP, but six of the 13 full-time PAL employees will likely be out of jobs.
LANCASTER, PA—By adding a pair of Kodak Prosper S10 imprinting systems to its Heidelberg (Goss) Sunday 2000 web offset press, Intelligencer Printing aims to enhance the level of personalization it offers clients in the retail, nonprofit, financial services and other industries. The company is also investing in Kodak Marketmover services to develop a six-month marketing campaign to grow services and attract additional customers.
NORTH MANKATO, MN—Precision Press, part of Taylor Corp. and a packaging and label producer for the food, beverage and consumer markets, will be the first in the world to install the new Goss Sunday Vpak web offset printing system.
Brown Printing will install the 20,000-copies-per-hour binder with 24 hopper positions and full in-line ink jetting and mailing auxiliaries at its facility in Waseca, MN, this spring. “The new Goss binder will further expand the state-of-the-art print finishing capabilities—including advanced targeting, product personalization and co-mailing—that we deliver for catalog and publication customers,” explains Pat Bayer, engineering and IT director at Brown.
Precision, an innovative U.S. packaging and label producer for the food, beverage and consumer markets, will be the first in the world to install the new Sunday Vpak 500 web offset printing system. “We have made a deliberate decision to do something different,” said Lee Timmerman, president of Precision Press.
At the official drupa 2012 International Media Conference, more than 100 media delegates eagerly awaited to hear about the latest drupa product launches that were going to be revealed during the three-day press briefing. Werner Matthias Dornscheidt, CEO and president of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, reported that the show is sold out.
Publishers Press will install a new 22,000-books-per-hour saddlestitcher, its 15th Goss finishing system, in its Lebanon Junction, KY, plant this summer. “Netting close to the full rated speed, when the job permits, while achieving advanced product personalization, is what distinguishes Pacesetter systems, and our crews have been able to do that consistently with our existing 2200,” explains Joe Sweeney, bindery manager.
The Magnapak system with 42 positions being installed at the Tribune Direct facility will support selective packaging of the company’s total market coverage (TMC) product and several other products for its growing list of newspaper packaging customers.
