Century-Old Texas Plant Closes its Doors

KEENE, TX—Southwestern ColorGraphics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Southwestern Adventist University, has closed its doors, leaving 69 employees without jobs, according to the Cleburne Times-Review. Company President Larry Garret said the plant was a victim of the "weakening national economy," the paper reported.

South Jersey Printer Gets Guardian Contract

BELLMAWR, NJ—Evergreen Printing has captured the contract to print the North American edition of The Guardian Weekly, the Philadelphia Business Journal reported. The venerable London publication is owned by Guardian Media Group. Terms of the deal were not revealed.

Domtar Shutting NC Machine, 185 Out of Jobs

MONTREAL—Domtar Corp. will permanently reduce its fine paper manufacturing at its Plymouth, NC, mill by shutting down one of the two paper machines comprising the mill's fine paper production unit. This will eliminate 293,000 short tons of the mill's uncoated freesheet production capacity. Domtar plans to reduce staff across various parts of the mill by approximately 185 employees.

Fogel Teams with Grossman, Stine at MSP

NEW CANAAN, CT—Jonathan Fogel, a former senior vice president at Sandy Alexander of Clifton, NJ, has joined MSP LLC as a partner. He is reunited with longtime Sandy Alexander execs Roy Grossman and Chip Stine, the founders of MSP.

National Hirschfeld Closes Its Doors

BOLINGBROOK, IL—Goss International has appointed Jochen Meissner as its CEO. He succeeds Bob Brown, who will continue to serve on the company’s board of directors. Meissner had served as executive vice president and COO since he joined the company in 2002.

Standard Register Names New Leader

DAYTON, OH—Standard Register has appointed Joseph Morgan Jr. as president and CEO. He was also elected to a seat on Standard's board of directors. Morgan was named acting CEO last September. Prior to joining the company in 2001, Morgan served in executive roles at eflatbed.com and Sony Chemical.

Taylor Corp. Shutting Down MN Facility
January 23, 2009

NORTH MANKATO, MN—Taylor Corp. will halt production at its Corporate Graphics facility in Austin, MN, on April 17, leaving 27 employees out of work, according to the Austin Post-Bulletin. Work from Austin will be performed at other companies in the Taylor chain. Current market conditions and their effects on customer demand was cited by Taylor as the basis behind the decision, the paper reported.

Century-old Hirschfeld Closes its Doors

DENVER—National Hirschfeld, a century-old business institution in the Mile High city, closed its doors this week, leaving 250 employees out of work, according to the Rocky Mountain News.

Donnelley Heads List of Plant Closures

CHICAGO—RR Donnelley served notice to the former Heartland Press plant in Spencer, IA, that it planned to close for good by March 13. The move leaves 160 employees without jobs. The plant was obtained by Donnelley in the Perry Judd's acquisition.
