Worker Dies Following Crane Accident
HOUSTON—A crane accident cost the life of a printing company employee here Monday night. According to the Houston Chronicle, 41-year-old Cesar Gomez died after the one-ton lift truck he was operating toppled onto him, causing a puncture wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Chronicle, quoting investigators, reported that Gomez had been trying to maneuver the crane to another location. The crane's base failed and the machine fell over, pinning Gomez. Employees worked to free him from underneath the crane.
According to the paper, police said that the crane had a maximum capacity of one ton and that Gomez may have topped the limit by several hundred pounds, though police are still investigating the incident. No charges have been filed.
