Printers' Relative Sees Arson Charges Dropped
GREENVILLE, SC—Jimmy Guzzy will not have to deal with arson and burglary charges stemming from the March 2008 fire that damaged millions of dollars worth of equipment at Genesis Press. The decision by prosecutors to drop the charges comes on the heels of a federal grand jury awarding $14.5 million to the printer from The Hartford insurance company in a civil case, according to the Greenville News.
Criminal charges were initially filed when The Hartford presented findings of its claims investigation to Greenville County authorities, the paper reported. Guzzy was the so-called "alcoholic family member" allegedly enlisted by the owners to burn the equipment and enable them to collect the insurance money. The jury found that the owners of Genesis Press were entitled to collect on their claim.
