Senator: Bulk Amendment Would Help Printers
MILWAUKEE—Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) is a driving force behind an amendment to the postal reform bill that would temper large postal rate increases for bulk mailers, the Milwaukee Business Journal reported.
Baldwin spoke with several of the newspaper's editors and also met with Quad/Graphics in Sussex, WI, this week to tout the amendment and the positive impact it would have on that state's economy. She detailed how the amendment would provide critical "pricing predictability."
Her amendment strikes a section of the bill that would allow above-inflation rate increases for bulk mailers. Baldwin points out that postage is a significant part of a mailer's bottom line, and significant increases could cause volumes to drop drastically.
More than 600 organizations nationwide support the amendment, the Business Journal said. The postal reform bill is still in committee.
