Printing-Writing Paper Shipments Register Near Double-Digit Decline
WASHINGTON, DC—May 25, 2011—According to the American Forest & Paper Association’s “April 2011 Printing-Writing Paper Report,” total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 9 percent in April compared to April 2010. All four major printing-writing grades posted decreases and U.S. purchases (shipments + imports – exports) of printing-writing papers decreased 5 percent compared to same period last year. Total printing-writing paper inventory levels increased 3 percent compared to March 2011.
Some points of interest from the report include:
• March exports of uncoated free sheet (UFS) increased on a year-over-year basis for the first time in eight months.
• Inventory of coated free sheet (CFS) increased for the third time this year in April.
• Coated mechanical (CM) inventory showed a double-digit month-over-month increase for the second time this year.
• Uncoated mechanical (UM) shipments posted a double-digit percentage decline, year-over-year, for the first time since November 2009.
