Uniting to Fight Global Climate Change
NEW YORK—Representatives from Time Inc., Pictorial Offset and Eastman Kodak joined forces to speak “green” during a recent seminar sponsored by the Advertising Production Club (APC) of New York and Partnership in Print Production (P3) at The Yale Club here. The keynote sustainability panel addressed the topic of how to “Fight Global Climate Change by Cutting Through the Green Fog,” which focused on sustainabiity issues in printing and advertising.
Speakers included David Refkin, Time Inc.’s director of sustainable development; Nick Patrissi, Eastman Kodak’s manager of market development; Don Carli, panel moderator and research fellow at the Institute for Sustainable Development; Dan Marselle, first vice president of the APC and senior vice president/managing director of Euro RSCG Life Blue Star; and Gary Pawlaczk, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Pictorial Offset.
The Rainforest Alliance has endorsed the publication of the first Bible to be printed on paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The Charles F. Stanley “Life Principles Daily Bible” is printed on paper that is FSC-certified (through the Rainforest Alliance’s SmartWood program). The project was a collaboration between Domtar Paper, which devleoped the specialized lightweight Bible paper, Bible publisher Thomas Nelson, printer RR Donnelley and the environmental nonprofit group Green Press Initiative.
The sixth installment of the Web Offset Champion Group’s best practices guide, “Environmental Considerations,” is now available. It details the underlying issues of the “4Es” (Energy, Economy, Efficiency and Ecology) and how to improve business performance using the “4Rs” (Redesign, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). Amos Communications, Beloit, OH, was recently invited to attend a formal dinner at the United Nations headquarters in New York, which was focused on the growing global water crisis. UN officials selected Amos Communications, which is dedicated to 100 percent waterless printing, to produce the printed materials for the event. When the 1,000 invitations were printed for the UN, one was returned to Amos, inviting the printer to attend.
