Maryland Printer Gets High Honor
BALTIMORE—Peake DeLancey Printers, of Cheverly, MD, received the “Grand Q” Best in Show award from the Printing & Graphics Association MidAtlantic (PGAMA) Print Quality Awards competition. As part of a nationwide program with its parent company, Consolidated Graphics (CGX), AGS Custom Graphics of Macedonia, OH, has welcomed two new employees into its Management Associate Program—Desirae McBride and Maureen Rourke. McBride was recruited from the University of Akron while Rourke hails from Hope College in Michigan.
Quad/Graphics announced that it has joined the Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay Transport Partnership, a collaborative voluntary program to increase the environmental performance of freight shippers. Partnership members agree to use SmartWay recommended techniques to aid national energy efficiency efforts. During 2004, Quad used an EPA formula to calculate that it reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 9,614 tons via SmartWay initiatives.
Five printers from across the country met the weekend of January 20–22 for the first meeting of the newest PIA/GATF Printing Executive Network (PEN) Group. Hosted by Michael Druyen, CEO, Certified Printers, Hollywood, CA, members toured his plant and then settled down to discuss the direction the group would take. Other members attending were John Frullo, owner, Midtown Printing and Graphics, Lubbock, TX; Gary Habicht, president, Printing Specialist, Glen Burnie, MD; Dan Litwin, president, Young’s Printing, Middleton, CT; and George Springer, president, Universal Printing Services, Des Moines, IA. Sales volume for the group ranges from $1.2 million to $2.5 million.
Custom Printing, Oxnard, CA, has hired Susan Fernandez to join the company’s sales staff. She has more than 20 years of experience in the industry. Also, Alan Dorfman, a 42-year industry veteran, has been hired as an estimator.
