Premier Press Earns SGP Certification
SEATTLE—August 11, 2011—Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP), a non-profit organization providing sustainability certification in the graphic communications industry, announced that Portland, OR-based Premier Press is SGP Certified. Premier is the first offset and digital print facility on the West Coast to attain this status of sustainability for its facility.
Premier initially investigated SGP Certification as a result of its larger clients’ requirement to purchase printed goods from facilities recognized as sustainable by an independent body. It ultimately obtained the certification due to SGP’s commitment to true sustainability.
Premier Press chose SGP Certification due to its comprehensive sustainability requirements, as other accreditation programs deal with only parts of business practices. With the Certification, Premier demonstrates environmental leadership by adopting strategies and practices that protect, sustain, and restore the environment.
“Sustainability is desirable, feasible, and necessary,” comments Jodi Krohn, CEO of Premier Press. “Our path forward confirms to our customers and the business community that sustainability is an opportunity, not a liability. With SGP Certification, we are excited to continue the process of making our environmental footprint even smaller.”
“We are pleased to add Premier Press as a sustainable facility. It’s an accomplishment that brings many rewards both for the company and for those that do business with it,” comments Shannon Palmer, Executive Director of SGP.
The SGP Certification process provides a framework for Premier to evaluate its overall EHS performance and to engage its clients and customers in sustainability practices. As a result of the Certification, Premier will use sustainable and reusable materials to create its products, and will make use of renewable energy during the production process. Premier will also encourage its customers to reduce their collective environmental footprint while enhancing the value and impact of the company’s products.
Premier is committed to maintaining and/or exceeding compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations. Progress toward these goals will be considered a key metric of the company’s growth.
The offset printing department at Premier contains a wide array of presses, from small format to 40˝ six- and eight-color UV-equipped machines. The use of UV ink technology allows for sharper image clarity and color intensity to enhance the finished product. Its wide format printing department has multiple hybrid UV presses that can print on a variety of substrates, from standard vinyl to 1.75˝ rigid materials. The onsite bindery and warehouse offer finishing and mailing solutions for all projects.
