USPS Given Green Light for QR Code Promo
WASHINGTON, DC—The Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) has approved the U.S. Postal Service's (USPS) request to offer another discount to mailers who use a quick response code in their advertising mail pieces during the summer months. Unlike the 2011 promotion, which represented a 3 percent discount, mailers will only be eligible for a 2 percent reduction for their use of qualifying 2-D barcodes on the inside or outside of their mail pieces.
The discount will be available during July and August, although merchants can register to qualify for the discount beginning May 1. This year's promotion stipulates that the barcode must lead the recipient to either a Web page for the purpose of purchasing a product or service on a mobile device, or a personalized URL which leads to a Web page that is unique to the recipient.
