Morris Communications to Consolidate Its Press Operations in Lubbock and Amarillo, TX
AUGUSTA, GA—September 5, 2014—Morris Communications (MCC) has announced the consolidation of its press operations in Lubbock, TX, and Amarillo, TX. The consolidation will be completed in two phases spanning the first and second quarters of 2015, resulting in a joint printing operation located at the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal building.
The project includes upgrading of equipment, new automation and controls that will replace the existing presses, providing quality improvements, increased color capabilities and the ability for the company to grow its commercial printing business.
"MCC has outsourced printing, St. Augustine, Athens, Conway and Topeka, where it made sense. In the rest of our markets it makes sense to invest in new more flexible equipment to become the dominant printer in the markets we serve," said Bob Kuhar, vice president of property and facilities for Morris Communications. “The more flexible printing equipment will allow us to go after a wide range of printed products.”
