Konica Minolta, MGI Debut the JETVarnish 3DS, a New 3D Tactile Varnish Finish Technology
RAMSEY, N.J—June 19, 2015—MGI Digital Graphic Technology and Konica Minolta, one of the world’s leaders in information management focused on enterprise content, technology optimization and cloud services, announced the introduction of the JETVarnish 3DS. The JETVarnish 3DS was designed and manufactured by MGI and Konica Minolta to help printers expand their services to include new spot UV and 3D tactile varnishing capabilities with powerful inkjet productivity and efficiency benefits.
The JETVarnish 3DS digital spot UV coater is the first achievement of MGI's strategic alliance with Konica Minolta and was designed by MGI exclusively for the Konica Minolta sales network. The newest addition to the JETVarnish Digital Spot UV Coating line, the third generation JETVarnish has all the tactile effects and advantages of the original JETVarnish 3D and in only half the size.
Designed primarily for the digital print market, the JETVarnish 3DS will make the popular 3D tactile varnish finish available to all digital printers in the market who print on widths up to 36 cm (14").
“This exciting new product will allow our customers to open new markets and provide a higher value service offering to their customers,” said Kevin Kern, senior vice president, Konica Minolta Business Solutions, USA. “The 3D enhanced and embossed effects dramatically increase the impact of print in a wide variety of applications for direct mail to packaging.
The economic impact of this convenient device will be experienced by producers of book covers and makers of personalized gifts, among others. Customers can expect to see a margin of more than 60 percent to 70 percent on average. The most significant impact of this printer is going to be for printing books in braille that are long-lasting and easier to read for the visually challenged.
The JETVarnish 3DS can turn regular print jobs into high-margin spot UV jobs, or even higher margin 3D embossed jobs. The JETVarnish 3DS has production speeds up to 3,000 sheets/hr. based on 30 micron coating thickness. With the ability to varnish up to 100 microns for 3D raised effects and tactile finishes, the JETVarnish 3DS can transform 2D flat surfaces into textured sensory experiences.
In 2014, MGI and Konica Minolta announced a strategic global alliance designed to help grow, develop and strengthen the future of both companies—as well as the entire digital printing industry—for many years to come. Building on a strong relationship that has lasted more than a decade, the two business partners have agreed to expand their collaboration by entering into a strategic alliance that leverages both co-development and the co-marketing of existing and future products.
