Printers Make Equipment Investments at Ipex
BIRMINGHAM, UK—King Printing of Lowell, MA, has placed an order at the Ipex 2010 exhibition here for a new Kodak Prosper 1000 inkjet press, to be installed in August, and plans to upgrade to a Kodak Prosper 5000XL press in early 2011. King will be using the Prosper 1000 press, and later the Prosper 5000XL press, to produce short-run, black-and-white and color books. Plans also call for variable data and ultra short runs for the trade, educational, and professional book segments.
In other show news, Los Angeles-based O'Neil Data Systems will beta test the new HP T200 color inkjet web press this summer. Unveiled Tuesday at Ipex, the HP T200 is a 20.5" wide, full-duplex, four-color press in a single engine for high-speed, high-volume production printing.
Worldcolor beat the Ipex rush by ordering the Kodak Prosper 5000XL press with an integrated Muller Martini SigmaLine in-line finishing system for its operations in Dubuque, IA. The press will augment Worldcolor's short-run color and black-and-white book work, as well as versioned and variable magazines, catalogs and high-end direct mail production.
