Foster Printing Ushers in New Facility with Press
SANTA ANA, CA—Foster Printing, a large-format trade printer based here, has inaugurated its new 46,000-square-foot facility in southern California and started up a five-color, 64″ KBA Rapida 162a UV sheetfed press. The firm began printing in its new facility in early December 2010 with the new conventional press alongside its six-color, 64″ KBA Rapida 162a with UV capabilities, purchased in 2008.
According to Kris Blackburn, vice president of sales at Foster Printing, the facility and press acquisitions capped two years of planning and exceptional growth.
“We’ve always wanted to own our own building and when the right opportunity came along, we moved forward with the purchase,” Blackburn said. “In order to not disrupt our current customers’ needs and our workflow, we worked closely with KBA on the installation plan. We installed the new KBA press first before moving our current KBA press over to the new facility.”
The presses are linked via a color management console and KBA Densitronic Professional closed-loop color control system. Both presses communicate to the KBA Logotronic management system to provide up-to-the-minute data on jobs, workflow, throughput and quality. Foster is using both presses in tandem to back up each other. The firm’s management team plans on putting two shifts on both presses and eventually expanding to a weekend shift, as well.
