The “Fast-Track” company profiles provide insight on why some companies on the Printing Impressions annual list of the largest printing companies in the U.S. and Canada have performed so well. Most Recent Fiscal Year Sales: $143 million
Previous Fiscal Year Sales: $126.4 million
Percentage Change: 13%
Last year, Duggal Visual Solutions, headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, saw an impressive 13% growth rate. And in just the first half of this year, it’s already seen roughly 20% in additional growth, notes CEO Michael Duggal. What is driving this explosive expansion?
“One of the reasons Duggal grows as quickly as it does is because of our technological leadership and our obsession with delivering the best possible quality,” Duggal says. “Just the size and scale of our operations, we’re able to do some projects that other people cannot do.”
And while Duggal notes that acquisitions are part of his plan for 2025 and 2026, he intends to keep focusing on growing organically too — both adding new brands to the company’s roster of client, as well as continuing to grow the volume of work from its current client list.
Duggal Visual Solutions has long been considered a leader in the industry, and while exceptional service and high quality are at the core of its company culture, Duggal believes it’s technological innovation that truly sets the company apart and allows it to win — and keep — the highest-profile projects and customers.
“We add new equipment every year,” he says, pointing out that the company doesn’t shy away from embracing new technologies and processes. “We’re constantly looking to expand our footprint. We now have 12 facilities, and overall we have 35 wide-format presses across those facilities. That’s helped us lead with scale and capability, and we update our equipment regularly to stay at the leading edge. We always want our customers to know, when they see a print, that it’s the best available. We don’t want them to think someone else could do it better.”
As far as trends Duggal is keeping an eye on, the first is continued consolidation. He points out that as the pace of new technologies coming to market continues to increase — along with the costs — it’s only going to get harder for smaller operations to compete. That’s why he believes we’ll only see more M&A activity across all segments of the industry going forward.
He notes that the demand for faster turnaround times is another major stress point, especially coming from major brands. Smaller operations that can’t afford to invest in new equipment annually to stay ahead will struggle to meet those demands — another point in favor of continued convergence and consolidation.
“I see it as a natural progression of our industry,” Duggal says. “If you go back 10 years ago, it was so dispersed. But every year there is more consolidation. I’ve been doing this for 29 years, and I feel like I’ve led 10 different companies because of the changes to what we do. When I started, we were still developing film. What was 100% of our business 29 years ago is now maybe 3%. You have to continually evolve, and we always strive to be the solution to what our customers need.”
His strategy of always looking at the latest technologies and investing where it makes sense to diversify and expand offerings has paid off. Duggal notes that the company is “blessed to work with some of the world’s leading brands,” with 16 of the top 25 global brands on its client list. The company continues to offer a full-service menu that includes large-scale print projects, fabrication, displays, design, and even installation and logistics on an international scale.
“That’s something we’re proud of; we’re excited to play a small part in the [top global brands’] stories, and helping them continue to resonate with their audience,” he says. “We get to work with the best of the best, and that’s what keeps us inspired and looking forward to the next project.”
