The recent Printing Impressions/In-Plant Impressions webinar, "Essential Steps to Mastering Color Quality," was designed to help professionals in the printing industry master color quality, and featured presenters Dan Uress, founder of MeasureColor and director of business development at X-Rite, and Carryl Davis, Solutions Architect at X-Rite, who shared insights on color measurement optimization tools and software for better printed results. They further discussed the importance of quality control (QC) software for standardizing color evaluation methods, improving communication, and enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
Uress described the origins of X-Rite’s MeasureColor software, highlighting the platform's evolution from its inception in 2008 to its current status as a part of the X-Rite family, and trusted by over 3,500 companies worldwide. His presentation also emphasized the software’s user-centric design and hardware-agnostic nature, which allows it to support various spectrophotometers and integrate multiple measurement capabilities under a single platform.
Carryl Davis shared real-world experiences from his extensive career in the printing and packaging segments, illustrating MeasureColor's application across different printing environments, including offset, flexographic, and digital printing. He also shared several case studies in which MeasureColor improved operations for highlighted companies, particularly in streamlining job setup, centralizing color standards, and enhancing dot gain management.
For instance, one company, an offset folding carton printer, Davis shared, benefited from MeasureColor by automating job setups, reducing error rates, and saving significant time and costs. Another company, an offset sheet-fed and label printer, consolidated color standards and streamlined dot gain analysis using the software, improving overall color quality and efficiency. The third case study featured a wide-web flexographic digital label company that leveraged the software’s reporting capabilities to better monitor plant performance and meet customer brand requirements.
The presentation also touched on the flexibility of MeasureColor's client-server architecture, which simplifies system management and allows data sharing across teams and locations. The webinar concluded with a Q&A session, which answered various questions from participants, including those about the technical aspects and real-world applications of the software in different printing scenarios.
