NEW YORK—July 24, 2012—Bloomberg LP announced that it will publish Bloomberg Insider, a daily magazine to be distributed at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. Bloomberg Insider will expand on daily convention coverage, providing a forward look at the 2012 U.S. elections while focusing on the important business and economic issues that define the candidates and their parties.
The decision to produce daily magazines for the conventions follows a period of unprecedented growth for Bloomberg in the Washington, DC area. The news and information provider launched Bloomberg Government, a Web-based subscription service covering the impact of government actions on business, in early 2011.
Last fall, Bloomberg acquired BNA, a leading source for legal, regulatory, and business information. Including the Bloomberg News Washington bureau, Bloomberg now has more than 1,600 employees based in the Washington, DC area including almost 300 editorial employees and analysts in its Washington, DC offices.
“Bloomberg Insider will include in-depth analysis by Bloomberg Government, reporting, interviews and features from Bloomberg News, Bloomberg Television and Bloomberg Businessweek, executive briefings from Bloomberg BNA and opinion pieces by Bloomberg View columnists,” said Norman Pearlstine, chief content officer of Bloomberg LP and Co-Chairman of Bloomberg Government. Bloomberg’s reporting at the conventions will be led by Politics Editor Al Hunt.
“Bloomberg Insider will feature well-packaged news and information from all of our platforms together with Bloomberg’s exclusive data, information and analytics,” said Tim Franklin, a Bloomberg News managing editor in Washington who will serve as editor of the daily magazine. “Readers will benefit from the comprehensive and objective reporting they have come to expect from Bloomberg.”
Bloomberg has joined forces with American City Business Journals to feature local content from the Charlotte Business Journal and Tampa Bay Business Journal.
Bloomberg will distribute 15,000 copies per day at each convention and in Washington, DC, reaching political leaders, business executives and the media covering the 2012 election. A digital version of Bloomberg Insider will also be featured on Bloomberg.com, Businessweek.com, through Bloomberg’s mobile platforms, and be available to subscribers of Bloomberg Government and the more than 310,000 subscribers to the Bloomberg Professional service.
Bloomberg Insider will include a limited number of advertisements in each issue to provide advertisers with a larger share of voice within the pages of the daily publication.
