Printer Adds Second Cutter to Support Increased Volume
SAN ANTONIO—Prestige Printing, a general commercial printer, has installed a second Heidelberg Polar cutter to handle its busy workflow. Its new Polar 92 X automated cutter joins an existing Polar 78 X cutter.
"We needed a new cutter to keep up with the added volume," reports Prestige owner Carlos Hernandez. "Not only can we handle larger sheet sizes up to 35˝, but the back gauge is faster, and we can also load up to 5˝ or 6˝ at a time."
First U.S. Install of EasySert Underway at Brown Printing
EAST GREENVILLE, PA—Brown Printing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Gruner+Jahr, has contracted Ferag to supply and install an EasySert inserting line at its facility here. The line will mainly be used for adding up to 12 inserts (postcards, magazines, etc.) to stitched main products. Installation of the EasySert line has already begun, with full production scheduled for the first quarter of 2011.
Ferag is represented in North America by Goss International.
Press Delivery Improves Web Printer's Efficiency
FREEPORT, OH—Freeport Press, a short-run, niche publication and catalog printer, has upgraded its Komori System 38S heatset web press with a multi-format Rima-System RS 610-003 automatic log stacker system. The new unit can format A5 to A3/"Slim Jim" to tabloid sizes.
The combination of the RS 610 horizontal log stacker with the RS 650 log palletizer, along with a full RS 34 compensating stacking backup system, allows seamless, uninterrupted product delivery.
"We couldn't be more pleased with the log quality in all the formats we produce," says James Pilcher, vice president of manufacturing and general manager. "This press delivery system has been a tremendous upgrade in efficiency for our operation."
Thomson-Shore Acquires Custom Book Bindery
DEXTER, MI—Thomson-Shore, a book manufacturer based here, recently acquired The Bessenberg Bindery, a specialty hand bindery in Ann Arbor, MI. Thomson-Shore will now begin offering Books as Art capabilities integrated with its existing offset and digital printing and binding platform.
