Trade Show Materials Donated to Schools
WAUSAU, WI—Just in time for the new school year, Wausau Paper has donated paper to benefit schools in Minnesota. The paper company participated in a collaborative project with three other companies, including Brandtjen & Kluge, Universal Engraving and Duplo USA, to develop writing books created as part of a paper finishing and converting demonstration during the recent PRINT 05 show.
The companies' donations allowed 14,000 writing books to be distributed among eight to 10 Montessori schools throughout Minnesota.
"A lot of paper is used at trade shows to demonstrate paper converting machinery, so we liked the idea of donating these books to a worthwhile cause," says Dave Fredel, director of marketing for Wausau Paper's Printing and Writing segment.
Wausau Paper donated Royal Complements for the book covers and its new Exact Ice paper for the inner pages. The pages were lined by Duplo USA, and Universal Engraving donated hand-crafted foil and embossing dies used to imprint the covers.
At the show, Brandtjen & Kluge printed the covers with artwork contributed by children from one of the schools and completed the book converting process.
Separately, Vijuk Equipment produced 40,000 coloring books during PRINT 05, and shipped them to nine different schools or school districts within Chicago-area counties and an after-school shelter in Chicago. Vijuk assembled the coloring books, featuring the main countries in which it does business, on its 321-T stitcher.
Finch Paper donated 35,000 pounds of paper for the inside pages. The Apex Trade Web division of Apex Graphics in Canada donated the printing.
