Joseph Becker, 85, CPA and Leading Financial Consultant to Printers for Over Six Decades, Passes
COLUMBIA, MD—November 10, 2014—Becker, a division of RS&F, Chartered, sadly announced the death of Joseph Becker, CPA. Becker died on Nov. 6, 2014, after a year‐long illness. He was 85 years old.
Becker served the print and packaging industry for over 60 years, and was recognized as “The Printing Industry’s Accountant” for his expertise in finance, production standards, compensation and incentive packages, mergers and acquisitions, and long‐range planning. He was also a frequent speaker on industry financial topics for national association events such as Printing Industries of America’s (PIA) Executive Development Program and National Association for Printing Leadership’s (NAPL) Management Institute. Becker's numerous articles on industry topics and his “Cup of Joe” phone conferences are memorable.
He was a founding partner of Becker & Co., and a principal with MargolisBecker prior to joining Becker/RS&F. His legacy is honored in the ongoing “Becker” brand, which as a division of RS&F, provides CPA and Management Advisory services for the print and packaging industry.
Becker helped hundreds of clients accomplish their personal and business goals with his trusting, insightful and energetic style. “For 30 years, Joe was my business partner, mentor and friend,” said Bart Krupnick, partner at RS&F. “While we will miss Joe’s calm, caring and fun‐loving personality, his footprint on the industry and our firm will last forever.”
His outstanding contributions to the graphic arts industry resulted in his induction into NAPL’s prestigious Walter E. Soderstrom Society and attainment of PIA’s illustrious Ben Franklin award. Becker was a frequent speaker on a broad range of financial management topics, including cash management, business valuation, and strategic planning. He was lead professor of the Financial Management course of NAPL’s Management Institute and a lecturer for the program’s Strategic Management course. Becker was also a founding member of the International Association of Graphic Arts Consultants and an “onsite” consultant for both PIA and NAPL.
Becker was a Washington, DC, native, a graduate of George Washington University, and proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard. While providing services to a national client base, Becker worked and lived in the Maryland suburbs then recently relocated to Lewes, Delaware. He is survived by his wife, Chris, and his children, Marlene, Myra, Cecile and Suzanne, and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at:
