NORTH HOLLYWOOD—Akers Brothers & Sister Printing, in business since 1944, has installed a Kluge EHF series press. Akers is using the new equipment for diecutting and foil stamping booster cards, a small card printed on 24-pt. adhesive coated stock. Additionally, the press will be used for similar applications on auto-lock bottom boxes.
SANTA ANA—B&Z Printing has purchased a new Best Osako 368 saddlestitcher from Best Graphics.
COLORADO SPRINGS—Pikes Peak Litho has installed a 400 watt/inch cold UV curing system from PRI Technologies on its seven-color, 77˝ Harris press.
DENVER—Document Imaging, an information and data management services company, has changed its name to GDXdata.
ENGLEWOOD—PrintXcel, a Quality Park Brand, recently installed RDM Image Qualifiers in all facilities producing business forms and checks. The RDM Image Qualifiers will allow all PrintXcel plants to design and test check documents for image compliance, ensuring that the documents will meet the requirements of Check 21 legislation that goes into effect in October.
WALLINGFORD—Northeast Thermography has acquired a Super Quad 20 slitting machine manufactured by Therm-O-Type.
BOCA RATON—Boca Raton Printing has added a two-color Heidelberg Printmaster QM 46-4 sheetfed press and a Stahl USA B-20 folder.
MIAMI—One of Miami's fastest growing printers has expanded its bindery capabilities with a new AmigoPlus perfect binder. The Muller Martini system is now producing soft cover books in the recently expanded facility of Nupress.
ATLANTA—Geographics has chosen the QuadTech Color Control System on ICON for installation on its new Heidelberg Sunday 2000 web press. The ICON architecture allows all QuadTech controls on a press to integrate seamlessly, sharing common hardware and operator screens.
CARROLLTON—Package printer Printed Specialties reports the installation of a new Bobst Media folder/gluer with a four- and six-corner module.
CHICAGO—Robert and Lou Werner of Werner Printing & Engraving have completed the acquisition of Holmes Engraving. Holmes has relocated to Werner's location. The two companies have a combined 185 years of printing and engraving experience.
Northbrook, IL—A PlateRite 8100 eight-up thermal platesetter, Trueflow workflow management system and other automated Screen workflow components have enabled SetPoint Graphics to improve quality and ensure a high degree of reliability.
PEORIA—MultiAd has installed a Xerox 6060 digital press with Fiery color server to complement its existing line of Heidelberg sheetfed presses.
SPRINGFIELD—Lincoln Land Spiral Binding, a specialist in mechanical bookbinding for the trade, has moved into a new location, tripling its production space. The company has also added film lamination services on press sheets up to 25˝.
Elkhart—Service Printers has signed an agreement to implement THE System business management software from CRC Information Systems.
JENNINGS—Goss International has taken an order from The Jennings Daily News for a new Goss Community press. The order has been placed following the installation in 2001 of a new Community press at its sister newspaper, The Ruston Daily Leader, and will replace its existing Harris V-15 press.
Baltimore—Victor Graphics, a book manufacturer, announced a comprehensive quality control program that will encompass nearly every facet of the company's business. Titled "Project Heads Up," the program is designed to improve the overall customer experience. The company has also purchased a Recmi stacker/ bundler from IMC America for its new Timsons web press.
LANHAM—OmniPrint Newsletter and Direct Mail Services is now operating a new Heidelberg Speedbander 603 automatic bander with Stahlfolder TD 78-4 Topline buckle folder. OmniPrint specializes in newsletters and direct mail projects for a wide range of customers in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. It was the first installation of the Speedbander 603 in the United States.
WOBURN—Seaboard Bindery has upgraded its Wire-O binding capabilities with the installation of a James Burn BB43H binding system.
SAINT PAUL—Modernistic reports is was the first printer in the U.S. to purchase the JetScreen direct-to-screen system, in turn reducing the number of steps for screen printing from nine to three.
Winona—W&C Printing has added a second Duplo collating/bookletmaking system. The Duplo System 5000 consists of two DC-10/60 collators, a DBM-500/T bookletmaker and a trimmer.
CARLSTADT—Pictorial Offset has entered into negotiations to acquire Integrated Imaging Center's (IIC) human and capital resources. A high-end color retoucher, ICC closed its doors in July.
TRENTON—The senior management of Direct Group, together with funds advised by private equity firm Schroder Ventures, has acquired Coupon Service Corp. of Jersey City, NJ. Both companies serve the direct mail industry. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
NEW YORK CITY—An eight-color, 41˝ KBA Rapida 105 sheetfed perfector with coater is now in operation at 1-800-Postcards. The firm, which is spending $8 million to upgrade its equipment, installed the KBA press with perfector in May, with an order to install a KBA 74 Karat digital offset press later this year.
CLEVELAND—Great Lakes Integrated (formerly Great Lakes Lithograph) boasts that it is the first and only printer in the state certified in MetalFX technology, which expands the traditional metallic color printing palette.
COLUMBUS—A Brausse automatic diecutter is now handling diecutting, scoring and perforating at Hopkins Printing.
DAYTON—Longtime employee Dennis (Denny) Livesay has purchased the assets of Progressive Printers, bringing local ownership back to the company originally established in 1946.
Philadelphia—Graphics Arts Inc. has purchased a Drupa-edition Heidelberg Speedmaster CD-102 sheetfed press. The company has been in business for 80 years and is an all-Heidelberg shop.
SHARON—A K2 UV coater and 60˝ SEAL Image 6500 laminator have been installed at Victor Printing.
CRANSTON—Colonial Printing has purchased a six-color Lithrone 40 with in-line coater. This is the first 40˝ press for Colonial, which also runs a six-color and a four-color Komori Lithrone 28.
COLUMBIA—Commercial printer Colonial Printing is now operating a two-color Heidelberg Printmaster QM 46 and a Prosetter 74.
GREENVILLE—Colour Allure has installed several Heidelberg systems including a small-format Printmaster QM 46 press, Quicksetter 300E platesetter, a Polar cutter and Heidelberg's quick folding system. This 15-year-old family business recently expanded its facility to accommodate the new equipment and better serve its clients.
DALLAS—AmazingPress.com has installed a Heidelberg Speedmaster 52 perfector with coater. Founded in 1990, AmazingPress.com is a trade printer offering in-house printing and bindery services.
HOUSTON—Seidl's Bindery has added a high-speed Gateway PlastiKoil plastic spiral binding machine.
CUDAHY—Reminder Printing has purchased a new Best Osako 368 saddlestitcher from Best Graphics.
MADISON—Widen Enterprises reports it has increased its full-time employment base by 15 percent over the past few months to accommodate a steady increase in overall business. Personnel have been added in various departments including marketing, prepress, quality control, and research and development.
WAUKESHA—Delzer Lithograph has purchased a new Best Osako 368AS saddlestitcher from Best Graphics.
CODY—Robert Goodyear, a 25-year veteran of the printing industry, has opened Goodyear Printing. A Heidelberg Printmaster QM 46 has been purchased as the one- and two-color printing company's primary press.
