After dissecting and refuting part of George Gallo’s "tepid acceptance of responsibility," a federal judge Thursday ordered Gallo—the state’s former top Republican—to serve a year and a day in prison for admitting election-campaign corruption.
"It was a mistake and I’m very sorry for it," said Gallo, the former $150,000-a-year chief of staff for House Republicans, who admitted steering 50 GOP House candidates to a Florida printing firm that was paid more than a million dollars from the state’s publicly funded election program, kicking back $117,000 to Gallo between 2008 and 2013.
