Managing Marketing Firsts
On Monday, January 27th the United States Olympic committee formally announced the 2014 U.S. Olympic women’s ski jumping team. This will be the first time that women ski jumping is featured into the Olympic program. The sport has been featured in the Olympics since 1924 and has only had men competitors. On January 24th, five-year-old Christian Thomas became the youngest person to ever complete the 2,180 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Ms. Nina Davuluri, former Miss New York, was crowned as the 2014 Miss America on September 15, 2013. Ms. Davuluri is the first Indian-American Miss America.
Marketing has become increasingly more complex and the changes that have been made in the last ten years add a great amount of pressure to small business owners. In the last years marketers have seen the following firsts:
- In 2000, inbound marketing creates value for customers and begins to help companies earn their business.
- In 2004, telemarketers we were faced with the “National Do Not Call Registry.” To date, 200 million Americans are on the Do Not Call list.
- In 2007, 295 million mobile subscribers used 3G networks and popularized music and video streaming.
- In 2012, online video viewers reached 169.3 million in 2012.
The Infographics Design Team created a infographics that takes a closer look at digital marketing. Here are some of the highlights I found to be significant:
- Google's hummingbird algorithm is about finding information based on the way people talk.
- Images are essential for success. Properly labeling images with relevant file names and ALT tags will strengthen your SEO and improve the accessibility of your content.
- Value simplicity.
- Internet marketing is a battle that plays on mobile devices, tablets, desktops and laptops.
