CLOSED-LOOP COLOR CONTROL — SMALL CHALLENGES, BIG REWARDS
May 1, 2006

THE WORLD of closed-loop color control (CLC) somewhat resembles a PGA-caliber golf course. In both cases, the rewards for mastering it are high, but hazards along the way can certainly leave you in a tough spot. What some web offset printers agree upon is this: closed-loop color control is a tool, not a turnkey panacea that will solve all color reproduction issues. Perfect, it is not. Generally speaking, CLC is a process where the control system analyzes printed color bars at full web press speeds and makes on-the-fly adjustments to maintain accurate color control. “The biggest challenge is getting our internal

Ease Your Pain And Suffering — Cagle

BUSINESS of print OK, SO it’s 12:30 a.m., and my 3-month-old son is screaming his head off. Out comes the formula, a fresh Huggie for his bottom and an audience with yours truly, barely able to keep his eyes open during the feeding. Needing animation to keep from dozing off (and fumbling the newborn), I switch on the TV and find the Game Show network, knowing that the “Match Game” has ended. That leaves “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” or at least the second half hour with Regis. Some schmoe actually uses a life line for a simple $8,000 question and still

RIPON, WI—The state may be better known for its more frigid temperatures, but Ripon Community Printers (RCP) has added a bit of heat to its corner of Wisconsin. While rare, these accidents are attention getters: * One young operator lost three fingers while adjusting knives on a three-knife trimmer unit on a saddle
