Paper Signs Deal for New Press PEORIA, IL—The Peoria Journal Star, a Copley Press property, has signed with MAN Roland for a new Geoman press to replace its current Goss letterpress system. OKLAHOMA CITY—Quad/Graphics has accelerated the timetable for launching its new gravure operations, located here. "We are encouraged by growing client interest in our newest location and confident that the timing is right to pull the trigger on gravure in Oklahoma City," says Tom Quadracci, president and CEO of Quad/Graphics. Two new 108˝ Cerutti gravure presses will be installed and made production-ready in 2004 rather than in 2005, as previously announced. Kinko's Buys ImageX DALLAS—Kinko's has acquired ImageX for approximately $16.5 million in cash. ImageX finished the fourth quarter with $12.3 million in cash and total assets of $25.2 million. Kinko's will use ImageX's technology to enhance its DocStore and Kinkos.com offerings. Kinko's does not now offer an online system by which customers can order business cards or stationery. Workflow Patents Revisited as Henry Freedman Speaks SPRINGFIELD, VA—The October 2002 edition of Printing Impressions included an overview of recent developments related to the patenting of automated workflow methodologies and technologies. The article made reference to an earlier patent held by Henry B. Freedman (U.S. Patent 4,839,829) but, at the time, Freedman said he was constrained from commenting for the story.
