A total of 51 graphic arts companies, both Printing Industries of America members and non-members, were selected by a committee of distinguished Human Resource experts from within the industry. The program is designed to recognize graphic arts companies for outstanding human relations efforts that contribute to a successful workplace.

Bowne Obtains RSG Digital NEW YORK—Bowne & Co. has acquired the digital printing business of Rapid Solutions Group, a subsidiary of Janus Capital Group, for $14.5 million. RSG Digital has annual sales of about $45 million. RSG’s digital printing unit operates facilities in Chicago and Melville, NY. Genesis Printing Faces Attacks MOONVILLE, SC—Within a span of two weeks, Genesis Printing was the victim of two separate incidents, one involving racist vandalism and, the most recent, a fire that caused $5 million in damage. ONE THING is a safe bet when it comes to handicapping the fortunes of the book manufacturing sector: Those who stay in school will definitely go far. The book platform is rife with challenges. Overseas printers can offer attractive production cost savings and adequate turnarounds in segments that aren’t as time- sensitive, such as coffee table books. One-color has become a bubbling commodity cauldron for print- on-demand digital applications; a boon for publishers that don’t want to carry excess inventory but, from this side of a playing field, it resembles a feeding frenzy for printers with comparable equipment. KENDALLVILLE, IN—Book manufacturer Courier Corp. of North Chelmsford, MA, is expanding its operations here, starting with a 200,000-square-foot addition that carries a price tag of $10 million, the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel reported.The expansion is part of a five-year project that is expected to eventually create 100 new jobs, according to the paper.
