Digital Printing-Production Inkjet - Continuous Feed (Color)

The biggest paper news during the PRINT 13 show in Chicago this past week, was the announcement by International Paper of the permanent closure of its Courtland, AL, mill. As to the show itself, digital remains front and center, and within digital, papers treated for continuous-feed aqueous inkjet, continue to be the buzz.

Phoenix Innovate in Troy, MI, has added a Screen Truepress JetSX sheetfed inkjet press. "When Screen approached us about the Truepress JetSX, we were ready for a commercially viable inkjet solution to fit in a high-quality print environment," said founder and CEO, Kirk Vercnocke.

Jersey City, NJ-based Diversified Global Graphics Group (DG3), has purchased an HP T230 color inkjet web press with inline finishing solutions to expand its digital capacity, as well as accelerate the transformation of traditional marketing and compliance communications.

With the addition of HP T400 and T230 color inkjet web presses, Standard Register in Dayton, OH, can now transition from a traditional stock and fulfillment model to print on demand, streamlining the supply chain for its customer base.

Original Impressions in Miami, FL, has chosen a Screen Truepress Jet520 inkjet printing system for its ability to produce books on demand, long-run catalogs and personalized marketing materials.

At the upcoming PRINT 13 in Chicago, more than a dozen Memjet-powered products from a record-setting number of Memjet partners will be launched and exhibited. Three Memjet-powered products have already been awarded Must See 'Ems in advance of the PRINT 13 show.

Canon Solutions America hosted its "When Print Meets Multi-Channel" event at SG360°, a direct mail and marketing solutions specialist based in Wheeling, IL. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about digital printing, variable data and multi-channel marketing, and how to monetize them in their own printing operation.

A young designer I spoke to the other day was very frank about the fact that she did not like digital printing because you could only print on white paper. Granted there are some print providers that prefer to print on white coated stock all day long (digital or offset, it does not matter to them). And these few give our whole industry a bad reputation.

IWCO Direct has installed an Océ ColorStream 3900 digital inkjet printer at its Chanhassen, MN headquarters. With full-color and monochrome print capabilities and speeds of up to 56 million letter impressions per month, the investment increases IWCO's capabilities and capacity for customers utilizing highly relevant, time-sensitive direct mail campaigns.

Seiko Epson has invested approximately 16 billion yen in two new production lines in Japan. The lines have been constructed to manufacture next-generation print heads—the core component in inkjet printers—for use in business and industrial printing systems to come to market in the latter part of the 2013 fiscal year.

Epson believes that the enhanced precision and density of the new print head will act as a platform for significantly improving the fundamental performance of Epson inkjet printers, and for making further improvements going forward.
