SGP Celebrates Five Years of Certifying Sustainable Print Facilities

Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP) will commemorate its fifth anniversary this fall at PRINT 13, RILA's Retail Sustainability Conference and the SGIA Expo. The festivities will kick off with a celebration at SGP's first Certified facility, Pictura Graphics in Minneapolis, hosted by President/Owner and SGP Chairman of the Board, Paul Lilienthal.

Energy Efficiency Could be Lifeline for Aging Paper Mills

According to a report released by the World Resources Institute this week, the 93 paper and pulp mills in the Midwest are older and less efficient than the nation’s fleet as a whole, hence they could stand to benefit even more by investing in efficiency overhauls. These include different procedures and new equipment for drying paper, bleaching and other parts of the pulping and paper-making process; and better maintenance of equipment like steam traps.

The report says such investments will pay off relatively quickly. Midwestern manufacturers could save $240M annually if all pulp and integrated paper mills met the same efficiency

Domtar Corp. has released its 2012 Sustainable Growth Report that highlights a long list of Year-1 achievements, such as: the company's best year on record for health and safety performance; close to 85 percent renewable energy use; decreasing greenhouse gas emissions intensity; and, increasing FSC-certified fiber use.

International Paper Announces Significant Progress on 2020 Sustainability Goals

A new 2012 Sustainability Report has been published by International Paper, revealing progress against its voluntary goals including certified fiber use, greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions, and water quality improvement. The report also highlights collaborations with prominent sustainability organizations including the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
