Between January 2003 and July 2008, Kasler allegedly awarded university contracts to MD Computers, Accolades and Resume Impressions, businesses owned by his wife. Special prosecutor Richard Ross told the paper that Ohio state law requires public officials to abstain from any decision involving a government contract if they have family interest in a company vying for the contract. Kasler retired in July.
